8. Acclimatising
The must-know strategy to adapt and attune to the new levels of self-worth you will be feeling and living.
This is a self-worth step.
Shifting from being stuck in the comparison trap, to free and living your life, YOUR way takes some acclimatising. Let’s face it, we’ve gone this long getting very cosy with comparison, so now it’s time to build the foundations of our new way of living.
In this module, we will look at how we adjust to and get comfortable with the ways in which we want to live. Ultimately, living in our comparison free versions of ourselves is about normalising and creating natural ways of being!
Living comparison free takes preparation.
If we were to go on an adventure up Mt Everest together, we wouldn’t just grab a sandwich and head on our merry way, we’d be visiting basecamps and check-in points as we climb up the summit, letting our bodies and minds adjust to the new levels of the journey, before setting off again. This is a key part of our path to living comparison free AND making it last.
Your next basecamp awaits you!
We aren’t going to rush up the mountain, racing our way up and overwhelming ourselves to the point we need a year to lie down and recuperate. No, we will be taking this basecamp, by basecamp, all the way to our optimal selves. Like with any mission, pacing and perseverance are the key here!
Today’s module calls for some journaling and introspection, so grab that pen and paper! We’re leaving the inner-critic at the door and walking through it with a curious spirit of adventure!
-What are you tolerating, that isn’t congruent with who you want to be?
E.g. One of your PPPs is space, but your diary is overwhelmingly full of commitments with friends. That is out of congruence with your desire for space.
-Where are you compromising?
E.g. One of your PPPs is quality time, but you compromise with your partner when spending time together, phones out and not truly present with each other. That’s a compromise that a little communication could fix.
-Where are you noticing old patterns?
E.g. One of your PPPs is visibility, but you’re slipping into familiar habits of putting off recording videos for your business, or shying away from speaking opportunities.
-How are you not being all in?
E.g One of your PPPs is integrity, but you keep falling short of promises and not keeping to your word, even when you know you could have if you had cultivated conditions to support your intentions.
What’s your next base camp?
Just like with our climbing analogy, a successful route upwards and forwards will depend on places to stop off and time to have a bit of a rest. Just like plotting any route, we need to be clear on where these are along the way - we need to choose our next base camp and then the one after that.
This is when looking at all the different possible ways we can really and truly live, and make time for our PPP’s comes in.
Here are some examples of how to choose your next significant step or ‘base camp’ to aim for based on the new reality, free of comparing yourself, you most want to create:
If you’re working towards ‘flow’.... Your basecamp might be “saying ‘no’ to things feels like it’s getting easier and I have more time to write my blog”
If you’re working towards ‘love’... your next basecamp might be “I give and receive compliments without flinching because I know, like other people, I am worthy of appreciation”
Perhaps ‘comfort’ is key for you… that basecamp could be “I realise I am quick to fix and repair what might impair my comfort instead of waiting for things to get worse”
